The Island Storm defeated the Moncton Miracles 139-128 in Sunday afternoon NBL action in front of more than 2,000 at Eastlink Centre.
With the victory, the Storm passed the Miracles in the standings, and now sits in third place in the Atlantic Division.
Akeem Ellis got the scoring started for the Storm, with a deep three early in the first quarter. The Storm relied on the three-ball early in the game, hitting 6/9 from deep in the quarter.
With the three flying, the Storm’s offense rolled in the quarter, exploding for 40 points and took a 17-point lead going into the second.
The Miracles didn’t back down, as they clawed tightened up their defense and cut the Storm’s lead down to just eight, 61-53, going into halftime.
The Storm’s strong play continued after halftime. Tirrell Baines nailed a three-pointer at the buzzer to cap off a 47 point third quarter for the Storm. This offensive outburst had the Storm up 108-92 going in the final quarter.
The fourth was much of the same for the Storm, who scored 31 in the quarter and cruised to a 139-128 victory.
This victory moves the Storm ahead of Moncton into sole-possession of third place in the Atlantic division.
The all-star duo of Jahii Carson and Terry Thomas got it done for the Storm this afternoon. Carson finished the game with a team-high 31 points, to go along with eight assists. Thomas put up 27 points, eight rebound and four assists as well in the victory.
The Storm will now get ready to take on the Windsor Express, who comes into town on Thursday at 7 pm.
