Storm lose heartbreaker

The Island Storm dropped a great game Friday night against the Halifax Hurricanes by a score of 112-110 in front of 2,140 fans at Eastlink Centre.

Jahii Carson got the scoring started for the Storm when he got a contested layup to fall.

After that, the Storm found themselves trailing 29-16 at the end of the first quarter despite Carson’s best efforts, as he led the way for the team with 8p on 4-5 FG.

Nick Okorie willed the team back into the game early in the second quarter with two quick baskets to cut the Hurricanes lead into single digits.

The scoring continued for the Island Storm, who went on to score 41 points in the quarter, and took a 57-46 lead into halftime.

The Hurricanes came out on an 11-0 run to start the second half, but a strong push led by Carson (26pts on 10-12 FG) gave the Storm an 81-71 lead heading into the final quarter.

The teams traded baskets for most of the fourth quarter, alternating leads. Halifax pulled away to a 110-105 lead with 40 seconds left.

With 37 seconds remaining, Jahii Carson hit a deep three-pointer to bring the Storm within two points. AJ Stewart followed it up with a huge layup to tie the game 110-110 with 20 seconds to go.

The Hurricanes came through with last second heroics and won the game 112-110.

Carson led all scorers with 39pts on 14-21 FG in the loss.

The Storm takes the court next in Saint John against the Riptide on Thursday, March 9 before returning home on March 16.
