The Island Storm is pleased to announce that our next home game on Feb. 2 against the Halifax Hurricanes will be our annual Newcomers Game, proudly presented by our official real state partner, Steve Nabuurs of New Neighbours PEI.
Making newcomers to the Island feel welcomed and comfortable is a top priority for the Storm, and we believe that it is the best way to encourage their continued engagement in the community.
Steve Nabuurs has purchased 500 vouchers for newcomers to PEI, and newcomers will be able to turn their vouchers in to the box office in exchange for a ticket in the Newcomers Section of the arena.
“Being a descendant of newcomers myself, I understand the realities of adapting to a new life in a new country. It is through commonalities such as sport that we share interests and come together as a unified people and province,” said Steve Nabuurs of New Neighbours PEI.
The PEI Association for Newcomers to Canada (PEIANC) is distributing the 500 vouchers to PEI newcomers. Newcomers can contact the PEIANC if they are interested in attending the Newcomers Game.
Craig Mackie, the Executive Director for the PEI Association for Newcomers to Canada knows that events like these make a difference in the lives of new members in our communities.
“It’s great community support from organizations like the Island Storm and from businesses like New Neighbours PEI that help newcomers to PEI make important connections with Island life through sports.”
The game will be on the backend of a home-and-home against the Hurricanes, getting underway at 7:00p.m. from Eastlink Centre on Thursday, February 2.
