Storm adds Brad States to training camp roster
December 14, 2016
The Island Storm announced Wednesday the signing of former UPEI Panthers star Brad States to its training camp roster.
States made the decision to turn pro after two successful years at UPEI, where he was an AUS all-star during the 2015-16 season. He made the decision to leave Holland College after one semester.
“I felt that the best choice for my personal growth was to kick-start my professional career as soon as possible, and I saw it as a huge advantage to do so close to home, in a community that I know and love.”
States averaged 19.0 points and 7.8 rebounds per game on 57.6% shooting from the field during the 2015-2016 season.
Coach Joe Salerno is pleased to welcome States with open arms
“Once he made the decision that he would not be returning to Holland for the second semester, he notified us, and we were happy to extend him his first professional contract.”
States would like to thank UPEI’s basketball program for helping him build the confidence and basketball repertoire that he hopes will land him a spot on the final roster. “I owe a lot to coach Tim Kendrick and I wish him and his program at UPEI all the best.”
Salerno recognizes just what States could offer the Storm.
“He is an exciting player, and someone who I believe has a very high ceiling. It will be quite an adjustment for Brad, the speed of the game and the physicality, but I am confident he will meet those challenges head on.”
Fans are reminded that they can catch States and the rest of the Island Storm in action tonight in Montague at the local high school for the team's intrasquad game.
