Storm sign former NCAA champion

CHARLOTTETOWN – Former NCAA division two champion Alex Richter has signed with the Island Storm.
In the team’s first signing announcement of the 2016-2017 season the Island will bring the 6-foot-5 guard from Augustana University in South Dakota to training camp in December.
“Alex was a great off-season signing for us. He is a tremendous rebounder for his size, has a great basketball IQ, and is a high character guy,” said Storm coach Joe Salerno.
Richter was a big part of his team’s national championship last season, earning the Most Outstanding Player honours in the Elite Eight as a senior. On the season he averaged 14.5 points and 3.5 rebounds on 54.5 per cent shooting from the field and almost 50 per cent from behind the arc.
"I'm very fortunate to have the opportunity to play the game I love at the professional level," Richter said in an interview with his former school. "I would like to extend a big thank you to everyone who has helped me reach this point in my career. I am extremely excited to get started and help another team be successful."
Leaving the school a champion, Richter also has many accolades from his days with the Vikings. He finished his collegiate career with 1,465 points, which ranks 13th in the school’s all-time scoring history. He also comes fourth in three-point field goals made with 194.
After low shooting percentages from last year’s Storm team, Salerno hopes Richter can be an offensive spark.
“One of our top priorities this off-season was to find better perimeter shooters, and Alex was the best I saw all summer, so you can imagine how pleased we were when he signed.”
