Souris intrasquad game recap

Team Black defeated Team White 107-97 in the Island Storm’s annual Intrasquad game  in front of a full house at Souris High School on Saturday. The eighteen players vying for twelve roster spots battled hard and put on a great show for the fans.

Team Black led 54-43 at halftime.  They kept their 11-point lead after three quarter, holding a 85-74 lead.  Team White out-scored Team Black 23-22 in the fourth quarter but went down to defeat.

Team Black shot 43.8% from the floor while Team White had a 45.3% shooting percentage.

Dwayne Smith led the way for Team Black, scoring 17 points, with 6 rebounds and one steal in almost 26 minutes of play. Others scoring in double digits for the Black team were Rashad Whack (15 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals), Brent Jennings (13 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists), Carlos Emery (12 points, 4 rebounds, game-high 7 assists, 1 steal), Ike Azotam (11 points, 3 rebounds, 1 steal), Renaldo Dixon (11 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist) and  Gary Gibson (10 points, 3 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals). Nick Evans had 7 points, 9 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block and 1 steal and Kenny Otieno chipped in with 9 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal.

Mike Martin of Team White was the high scorer of the game with 32 points. He also had 8 rebounds, 2 assists and one steal.  Other Team White players were Malcolm Grant (17 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals),  Nick Carter (10 points, 1 rebound, 1 steal), Billy Rush (9 points, 5 assists), Andre Malone (8 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, 1 block),  Robert Nortmann (8 points, 6 rebounds, 1 block, 1 steal),  Terry Thomas (8 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, 1 block), Denzel Jackson (5 points, 9 rebounds, 2 blocks, 1 assist, 1 steal) and Pierre Henderson (1 rebound, 1 assist)

The Storm will continue their training camp this week and will play their first exhibition game on Friday (December 18th) in Sydney, Nova Scotia against the Halifax Hurricanes.  Then on Monday, December 21st, the Storm will travel to Moncton to take on the Miracles.

The 2015-16 season opener will take place on Boxing Day at 2PM when they entertained the Saint John Mill Rats at the Eastlink Centre.
