Storm drop Highlanders for second straight home win

Released: December 01, 2017

By Jordan Ramsay | Dec. 1, 2017

The Island Storm won a commanding game 115-101, against the Cape Breton Highlanders on Friday night at the Eastlink Centre.

Back-and-forth action dictated the first quarter as the Storm answered the Highlanders shot-for-shot.

New addition, Marcus Bell, started his Storm career off by sinking his first two free throws, while a big quarter from Andre Stringer and Du’Vaughn Maxwell helped put the Storm in good position, trailing the Highlanders 26-24 after the first quarter.

Stringer and Maxwell continued their magic in the second quarter, each sitting at a team-high 12-points by halftime to give the Storm a 59-49 lead at the break.

The Storm roared out of the gate to start the third quarter.

Stringer sunk a deep three-pointer at the 9-minute mark before Chris Johnson set up Du’Vaughn Maxwell who sunk a slick layup, followed by the extra shot.

Wayne McCullough’s hard work paid off after sinking his own three-point shot.  The Storm led by as much as 12-points in the quarter before a Highlanders push cut the Storm down to an 82-77 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

The Storm pulled away in the fourth quarter, thanks to three-pointers from Tyler Scott, Brad States, McCullough, Stringer and Maxwell.

Maxwell finished with a game-high 29-points, while Stringer put up 24-points and Johnson chipped in with 18-points to give the Storm a 115-101 win.

The Storm are back at the Eastlink Centre at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 1 for the opening game of a home-and-home against the Moncton Magic.
