Released: November 09, 2017

CHARLOTTETOWN – The Island Storm has announced Thursday the signing of two-time Drew League MVP Franklin Session.

The six-foot-two shooting guard, who commonly goes by Franky Nitty, arrived on the Island last night from Los Angeles and will join the team for training camp today at Holland College.

“I’m excited to get to work and bring a defensive edge and intensity to this team,” said Session. “This seems like a really nice place to play. I’ve talked to some people I really respect and they recommended it highly.”

Session played collegiately at Weber State alongside NBA superstar Damian Lillard in 2009, and went on to win the Big Sky Conference Newcomer of the Year. He transferred to Cal State the following season.

Lillard had high praise for his former college teammate, once saying he was the best player out of Los Angeles.

Session joins the Storm camp after a brief stint with the Los Angeles Lakers’ G-League affiliate team, the South Bay Lakers.

“Our coaching staff and management team is beyond excited to bring in a player of this caliber,” said Storm vice president Brett Poirier. “Franklin is genuinely excited for this opportunity and we can’t wait to see him in game action.”

This past summer Session lit up the Drew League en route to a championship and his eventual MVP award. He scored 35 points in the championship game of a tournament that featured NBA stars James Harden, Chris Paul and DeMar DeRozan.

Storm fans can catch Session and the rest of the team in action tonight at Colonel Gray High School for an open scrimmage at 7pm.

The Storm tips off the season next weekend with a game against the newly formed St. John’s Edge on Nov. 18at 7pm.  Fans can purchase tickets by clicking here.
